Cinemas around Plymouth

25 Derrys Cross, Plymouth PL1 2SW, UK – 01752 225553

Very good prices. It's a old cinema. Seats are very uncomfortable. Screen 3 is very small.. love this cinema been going there for years. Shows the Top films. Also has 3d films. Centre of Town. Lots of car parks around. X

How cinemas used to be! This is something of the ghost of cinemas past and looks like it last saw a lick of paint in 1973. Similarly, this looks like the year the seats were installed as some of them now have plastic covers with "Do not use" labels. This gives one the feeling of actually being in a ghost story as you are watching the film - helped by the lack of heating. Hard to see how this relic can survive but I so hope it can as it would be sad to lose this unique atmosphere. Staff seemed to be friendly and the picture was appropriately projected onto the screen.

Barbican Leisure Park, Shapters Road, Coxside, Plymouth PL4 0LG, UK – 0345 308 4620

The best cinema in Plymouth, of which there is two. And it's not exactly hard to beat the other one. Amazing selection of current films. Good comfortable seats and I love that the arms can go up- perfect for cuddling next to a date. The lights down the middle remained on but dim and this was distracting at certain points. The prices, of course, are very very expensive. As is common among all Vue cinemas.

The screens are clean and the food is good although expensive. There is an abundance of free parking and multiple restaurants surrounding if you fancy a bite before your film. This is a gauranteed great day out if you have the money. The seats are comfy and you can always upgrade for £2. The audio and film are both very sharp. Compared to other local cinemas this is definitely the one to the highest standard. If your a tourist or local, Vue is a great place to visit.

Jill Craigie Cinema

Drake Circus, Plymouth PL4 8AA, UK – 01752 585050

Excellent cinema, showing a range of arthouse films and more, situated in Roland Lewinsky Building, Plymouth University

The seats are reasonably comfortable provided you're not sitting for too long. The screen is the perfect size and always shows interesting and original content

Theatres for Plymouth

Barbican Theatre

Castle St, Plymouth PL1 2NJ, UK – 01752 267131

Lovely local theatre with a friendly atmosphere. The staff clearly care about the artist and audience experience. Hidden in the historic Plymouth Barbican they frequently also create work that leads the audience through these side streets.

This is a great Theatre encouraging innovative performances. Lovely atmosphere and friendly welcome for all.

Theatre Royal Plymouth

Royal Parade, Plymouth PL1 2TR, UK – 01752 267222

Clean and tidy with reasonable prices on tickets and food/drink. We've loved our visits here. The only thing I would comment on is that the seating can get a bit uncomfortable if you're around for a while. Highly recommended though. I travelled to New York a couple years ago and tried Broadway out. In my humble opinion TRP eclipses Broadway one thousand times over. If you haven't seen a show, you should. I've seen West Side Story, Madame Butterfly and Tosca and all were fantastic. Amazing casts and sets with a great atmosphere from the crowd.

We had a meal in the restaurant before the performance of The Importance of being Earnest. Our table was available from 17 .30 so we could have a leisurely meal. The menu offered a good choice and our meals were delicious. We could, if we wished, have had our puddings delivered to our table during the interval. If course we enjoyed the play and the whole experience. Well done Theatre Royal.

Plymouth Arts Centre

38 Looe St, Plymouth PL4 0EB, UK – 01752 206114

Compact but comfortable cinema, friendly and informative staff, well worth a visit.
